With its “gin clear” waters, Exuma is known as the sailing capital of The Bahamas. With 365 cays, one for every day of the year, Exuma hosts brilliant regattas; with a population of 7,314 covering an area of 290 sq. km (112 sq. miles).

Each year, for four days only, the best sailors from every major island in The Bahamas converge at Elizabeth Harbour on Exuma Island for the National Family Island Regatta, which has been renamed THE NATIONAL REGATTA, celebrating 60 years of Bahamian sloop sailing. ”During these four days, Bahamian sailors arrive prepared to sail their locally-built sloops for the much coveted “Best in The Bahamas” title. The competition is fierce and the atmosphere is alive with excitement as boating enthusiasts the world over descend on this picturesque island in the sun.

As well as picturesque beaches, Exuma boasts some of the best fishing in The Bahamas, with major fishing tournaments being held throughout the year. Don’t miss an opportunity to visit the local sites, historical landmarks and attractions around the cays. One must see attraction is the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park, the first marine fishery reserve in the world.

Another thing that you might find yourself doing more often is saying, “Hello!” Everyone here tends to be really friendly. Many guests say that the people of Exuma are among the most friendly that they have ever encountered, while on holiday or otherwise! People wave as they drive by, and are more than willing to give you directions on the street. In fact they might go out of their way to walk you to where you are going, because hospitality goes a long way on the islands.
