December is such an exciting month in The Bahamas, not just for the perfect temperatures and one of the driest months of the year, but also because of the many festivities that take place throughout the islands during this month. The biggest of them all is Junkanoo, held on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, which is our version of carnival. It is best described as a cultural explosion of music, dance, creativity, best costume and the list goes on. Preparations are made a year in advance and groups from 1 -50 participate. Bahamians young and old take part in this festivity and tourists are also welcomed to join in the fun as part of one of the local groups or you can make your own group known on the islands as a ‘scrap group’.
Things to do:
Junior Junkanoo, Junkanoo and the Bahamas Culinary Classic Food and Wine Festival.
