Today is a new beginning in The Bahamas. The Free National Movement (FNM) is the new government of The Bahamas. After what can only be described as a landslide victory, the Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) has conceded defeat. Bahamas Flavour has followed the election over the past months with much interest as both parties fought to gain the votes of the people. The people have now spoken and we must work together to make a better Bahamas. Our new Prime Minister, The Honourable Dr. Hubert Minnis said in his victory speech, “those who voted for a party other than the FNM has nothing to fear”, adding that “our founding fathers didn’t believe in victimization and neither do we”. He said “we will not deny any Bahamian access to opportunity based on partisan politics”.
It cannot be argued that there is certainly a long road ahead for the new government of The Bahamas and one that I am sure will have the full backing of the Bahamian people, as the process begins to create new opportunities, jobs, effective access to healthcare, improving the educational system, developing our islands and ensuring our young people have a bright future ahead and one where they will invest in and ‘give back’ to ensure the continued growth of the economy.
