The Bahamas Reflects on a Successful 2018

The Bahamas can celebrate the end of a successful 2018, with the culmination of the country’s National Festival, Junkanoo.  Having seen an over 10% increase in international visitor arrivals, with the addition of new hotel product,  new direct airlift from major cities and a variety of attractions and tours, the country has much to celebrate. Visitors in December can expect a treat with the pulsating sounds and vibrant colours of the Junkanoo parade, which is held on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve. The enviable warm temperatures, last minute travel deals and the warmth and hospitality of the Bahamian people, are just some of the reasons why visitors flock to our beautiful shores.

The October Forward Keys survey, which tracks inbound visitor data, reported that international arrivals have increased by 13 percent in October year-over-year, while international air capacity grew by 16 percent in October. Scheduled direct flights are set to increase more than 15 percent from November to January, which can be attributed in part to new and expanded service from Delta, American Airlines, Bahamasair and Silver Airways in key markets in the USA, including New York, Miami, Charlotte, Atlanta, Houston and Chicago. Additionally, Expedia reported a greater than 30 percent increase in room sales and greater than 25 percent increase in hotel gross bookings year-over-year.
